Renting An RV: Vacations, Discounts And RV Rental

As gasoline prices have soared across the country, consumers have been forced to use greater discretion with their driving, particularly when planning vacations. Somewhat surprisingly, the increased fuel costs have not discouraged the usage of recreational vehicles. RVs are hardly fuel efficient; less than 10 miles a gallon is the norm, yet RV rental remained popular throughout the 2007 summer season.
One reason is that while fuel costs are higher, travelers save on other costs such as lodging. Large capacity allows for children to travel comfortably for long distances, and the ability to cook in many RVs can save money on food costs as well.
Recreational vehicles also are an ideal way to explore the vast size and myriad destinations of North America. RV rental has become increasingly popular among Europeans vacationing in the States, partially because of the strength of the Pound and the Euro. Gas rates are also far cheaper than in Europe. RV rentals are popular in both Canada and the United States, and might be the only suitable option for truly ambitious trips.
Motor homes give travelers control over where they go, what they see, and how quickly they can travel. RV rental is inherently more leisurely than air travel, and ability to take vacations at a relaxed pace remains one of the best advantages of RV rental. Not everyone who is part of "the lifestyle" owns the vehicle. RV rental is especially useful for seasonal users, and allows one to easily customize the vehicle to fit the needs of the trip.
For those renting an RV for the first time, booking well in advance is always recommended. Early reservations are also advised for campsites and RV parks; the discount rates ensure they will be crowded around the holidays. Fifteen-hundred-dollars a week is a reasonable estimate for an average RV rental; off-season and late-season rentals are available for a discount. Dealerships and rental agencies are easy to locate, with various websites and organizations to assist first-time renters.
Choosing the RV is the most important part. The temptation may be to assume that with RV rental bigger is better, but the specifics of the vehicle should be carefully considered. Large motor homes with lots of sleeping room are wonderful on the highway, but would not be well-suited to small rural roads. Logistical considerations such as utility hookups should be factored into the equation, as well. Myriad amenities are available for RV rentals, and will make a substantial difference in the price. The whirlpool bath and the fireplace might sound wonderful, but all that luxury can get expensive quickly. It is better know your needs and stick to them; after all, this is your home away from home.
